Fire Catches on Samson Agencies Crackers Shop in Mamukku, Ranni

In another major incident in Ranni yesterday, the renowned crackers and armoury agent in Ranni suffered a major setback as fire set on its shop in Mamukku Ranni. Samson Agencies Cracker shop in Mammukku is one of the most reputed sellers of crackers and armoury in Ranni and was deeply trouble by the unexpected fire that caught the shop and employees in dire straits. The incident occurred at around 5 PM and all the people nearby were really confused and stressed at the sight of the fire gaining momentum.

Two of the shop employees jumped from the shop as the fire escalated and they were able to save themselves with some minor burns. The fire was about to invade another room which was filled with crackers and by that time the fire force came to the scene and were able to control the fire and prevent it from creating further destruction. The shop was just 100 meters from Mamukku Petrol pump and a great potential disaster was prevented by the timely controlling of the fire.

Shop employees Roy Varghese and Murugan were saved with minor burns and they jumped through the broken glass windows. People and nearby shop owners were notified by the continuous sounds of crackers being blown up at Samson shop. The fire first broke out from the room where guns and other armouries were being repaired. People were terrified and never dare to come near the shop. They only came near the shop once the fire was in control by the continuous effort of the fire force employees.

As per the owner Samson Thomas, there were not too much crackers inside the room which caught fire and this has avoided a huge disaster. Ultimately the fire was in control and it is not sure how much damage the fire has really caused and it will take a couple of days when the owner can finally come up with the exact amount of loss caused by the unexpected fire at the crackers shop in Ranni.

My Visit to Ranni After a Long Time

It has been a long time that I visited Ranni even though I wished to be there everyday, but due to my personal  and professional life schedules, I could rarely be there for the last 6 months. Last month I decided to visit Ranni and this was on a day when there was a national vehicle strike and I somehow managed to reach Ranni on my own vehicle. As expected, Ranni was almost looking deserted due to the lack of people and vehicles in the road as a result of the vehicle strike.

But I still managed to visit some of my friends and even though I did not visit Ittiyappara, I was able to spend some time at Perumpuzha in Ranni and also at the site of the newly being constructed civil station.  Could not catch up with a lot of my friends, but still I felt happy to be in Ranni for atleast few hours. I left Ranni the same day, but those few hours were quite enough for me to fill my mind with good memories about Ranni.

Bus Fells into Pipeline Trench in Ranni

It was a dreadful day for the people in Ranni who were out in their vehicles through Punlar-Muvattupuzha State highway. An unexpected heavy block in Ranni town yesterday really made the people sweat it out inside their vehicles. The block was caused as a passenger bus plying in the Ranni-Kozhencherry route unexpectedly fell into a trench near the Ranni bridge that was created while laying Ranni Major water distribution pipelines. The trench was not properly covered and this caused the bus' left side wheels fell deep into the trench. As a result the bus was in a sliding position and the passenger door was towards the trench which made it impossible to open.

The passengers started panicking and they were taken outside through the small door present near the driver's seat. No serious causalities were reported and the incident caused a huge road block and one could see a huge block on either side of the Ranni bridge. There were huge blocks till Ittiyappara on one side and similar block till MSHSS on the other side.  Fire Force officials with the help of a JCB finally managed to pull out the bus properly from the trench and Ranni CI: T Rajappan and SI: Lal C Baby also rushed to the scene.

Hope that this incident will open the eyes of the authorities and finally do something to cover the trenches properly. There are a lot of similar trenches on the road sides in Ranni and when it rains the trenches gets filled with water making driving and walking on the roads more difficult.

Ittiyappara Bus Stand Struggling with Uncontrolled Waste Deposits

Unscientific ways of waste management has brought the Ittiyappara bus stand in Ranni look like a waste deposit center. The side of the bus stand is filled with wastes that are dumped by shop owners and other people. The waste deposit really gives a heart breaking sight for everyone present at the bus station. The growing number of shops around the private bus stand is another reason behind the growing waste accumulation. At the same time, the authorities are doing little to tackle the issue from their side.

The smell from the waste is something that is hard to bear and people are forced to walk with their nose covered with hands. This is the peak summer period in Kerala and such an issue might result in the development of various diseases and health issues. Those waiting for the bus find it highly suffocating as they are exposed to the foul smell from the waste and garbage.

It seems that the authorities must make sure that there is a system to collect the wastes and garbage from the town and dispose them somewhere else, where it creates less harm to human beings. They can also think of creating a small waste management unit so that the wastes and garbage are properly disposed off. Ranni is one of the most strategic locations on the way to the eastern high lands and such a bad state of the bus stations will tamper the overall image of this place.

Buses from different parts of Kerala arrive at Ittiyappara bus station daily and the sight of the waste and garbage will create a negative impact for Ranni. It is high time that these wastes are removed from here as the schools will open in few weeks and children will also be more subjected to the diseases spread from the garbage.
